Encore Coaching - Part Two

Let’s continue our conversation about Encore Coaching – or coaching for the second, third or fourth act.

It sounds wonderful – planning an exciting new phase in your life with the benefit of experience and wisdom! But faced with the option of finally following your dreams and passions can be completely and utterly overwhelming – even paralyzing! For most of us, we may not have ever allowed ourselves to dream and imagine the life of our dreams fully.

Speaking for myself, I have always erred on the side of “being responsible.” My mother will tell you that I was born responsible! It has served me well, but I have always wondered about what my life could have been like if I lived my dreams. I don’t think I am the only person who has felt this way.

When I began my Encore journey, it was uncomfortable for me to think beyond being responsible and sensible. It was challenging to allow myself to dream and to admit to owning my dreams – I mean, some of them seemed crazy! But with help and support of a coach (and my tribe), I was able to make a breakthrough and I got to the point where I could articulate my dream (or at least part of it). Then, I had to convince myself that I was capable and deserving of this dream. Without help and support, I don’t think I would have found the courage to embark on my encore career and the life I love. And I am still growing!

This is where I meet many of my clients – at this point of challenge and confusion. As their coach, I can come alongside them and help them to see how to harness their knowledge, experience, and wisdom and understand how to leverage these assets. We talk about dreams and we acknowledge how vulnerable it can make us feel when we finally “speak” our dreams out loud. We bring all these elements together to begin to create a vision of a “whole” life.

When you have the opportunity to redesign your life (whatever the circumstances), what are you going to do? When you decide that your job is no longer enough or no longer deserves to be everything, will you be ready?

Your dreams don’t have an expiration date, so dream about a life that fulfills you. Let’s start planning that life!
