How to Motivate Yourself to Take Action

Taking action that gets you closer to your dreams and goals is vital, but it's often not easy to stay consistent, and build momentum. Without action, there is no success. Those who take action are those who see results.

How can you motivate yourself to keep working toward your goals, especially when you face challenges? Here are six techniques you can use to motivate yourself to take action:

  • Break your goals into smaller, manageable and attainable steps. This is especially important if you're working towards a big goal. Break it up into a series of small, achievable, steps, and after each step is completed, celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done. Doing small, continuous, steps will keep you on course and motivate you, because rewards come often.

  • Know your limits. You know yourself and your true personal limits. If you move too slowly, you'll know deep down you can take more action. However, if you try to do too much, you risk burnout. Figure out the magic point where you can achieve success without too much stress. That way you'll stay motivated to keep taking action.

  • Get rid of distractions. There are things that will distract you. Remove yourself from those situations. For example, turn off your mobile phone and stay off social media while you are working on a project. Limit your time screen time like watching TV, playing video games, etc. Ask yourself if watching yet another cat video is getting you closer to your goals.

  • Ask for help. Don't be afraid to get help from others. There's only so much you can accomplish by yourself. There will be times you'll have no choice but to do things on your own, but when you can, lighten the burden and ask for help.

  • Find an energizing activity. Often you'll find there's a period when you go into a slump. Perhaps you have trouble getting started in the morning, or maybe you feel sluggish in the afternoon. During these times, have an activity that energizes and re-motivates you. A good exercise routine can do that. It boosts your heart rate and sends fresh oxygen to your brain, refreshing and helping you think more clearly, making you feel more like doing your work.

  • Keep a tight schedule. A proper schedule and organized plan will keep you motivated and on track. In the beginning phases of planning your goals, make sure you are absolutely specific. Decide exactly what you need to do, and when. This way, you'll know every step, and the order in which it needs to be taken.

If you want to succeed, you must take action. It is not always easy, but it's the only way!
