What is the Limiting Factor in Your Life?

July 22, 2019

No matter how far you’ve come in life, you may still feel there is more that you want to, could or should achieve, but something is holding you back -  a limiting factor. There is always something preventing you from having more. It may be that part of you that says, “Who do you think you are?  You can’t possibly achieve that!” Or you may have people in your life that hold you back. So, let’s start by figuring out what some of the most common limiting factors are and then let’s talk about how to deal with them. .

What is the limiting factor in your life? Could it be one of these?

  • Purpose. If you don’t know what’s important to you, or what you’re trying to accomplish, you’re severely limited. You won’t know where, or how, to direct your attention and energy.

  • Self-awareness. It’s easy to see the flaws in others, but almost impossible to see them in ourselves. Keep a journal and examine why you do the things you do. Ask a trusted friend or family member for insight, or better yet complete our DISC Assessment for a deep dive into self-awareness.

  • Knowledge. Perhaps you simply don’t know enough. For example, if you want to be a real estate investor, but don’t know much about real estate, you must increase your knowledge before you can be successful. Consider what parts of your life will be enhanced if you know more?

  • Courage. Most of us know exactly what we need to do to resolve our challenges, but we fail to consistently take action. Fear is usually the cause.

  • Money or resources. If you dream of owning a home, driving a new car, or taking an expensive trip, money might be the limiting factor. A lack of money can also give you sleepless nights. Money isn’t everything, but lacking in financial resources is limiting.

  • Time. Anyone who works multiple jobs, or works full-time while attending school, or cares for a family, knows a lack of time is often a limiting factor. .If you don’t have enough time to do everything, figure out what is really important to you and then how to allocate your time appropriately and make improvements.

  • Relationships. Negative relationships limit your life, as do bad employees and a lack of friends. Highly driven people understand the value of relationships. The people in your life can do a lot to help or hinder you.

  • Health. Poor health is physically and mentally limiting. If you don’t feel good, or your energy is low, it is a limiting factor in your life. Make your health a priority. Examine your diet and exercise habits.

What is limiting your progress? Find your limiting factor and work on it. Remember, when you solve that challenge, another limiting factor will take its place. Keep working. It’s a lifelong process.
