Simple Tips to Build Self-Confidence

April 1, 2019

A lack of confidence affects every area of your life, from your job performance to personal relationships. How you perceive yourself, powerfully impacts on how others treat you.

Use these simple no-cost tips to help reach your full potential as a successful and confident person.

  • Dress confidently. When you look good, you’ll feel good. Be intentional about how you dress.  It is not about expensive clothes, it is about thinking about what you are going to wear, and then wearing it with confidence because you feel good in these clothes

  • Walk faster. People who walk confidently maintain a brisk pace because they have things to do and places to go. Quickening your stride will make you feel more confident.

  • Maintain good posture. You tell the world a lot just by the way you carry yourself. If your shoulders are slumped, and you and cannot look people in the eye, you create a negative impression. Hold your head up, make eye contact, and stand up straight and tall. You have nothing to hide.

  • Be grateful. Gratitude creates a state of peace. A peaceful mind radiates confidence. Make a list of the things you appreciate about yourself, and be grateful for your past successes. Tell those you love how much you appreciate their being in your life.

  • Compliment others. It’s important to show others appreciation. When you think negatively about yourself, you’ll often have a tendency to be critical. Break this habit by giving praise daily. When you see the best in others, you'll bring out the best in yourself.

  • Give back. Helping other people succeed will make you feel better about yourself, and what goes around comes around. Volunteer your time, or make a monetary contribution to your favorite charity.

  • Don’t be afraid to speak up. Take an active but thoughtful role in discussions. If you speak up and what you have to say is meaningful, it will distinguish you as a leader. People will quickly recognize you have confidence and plenty to offer.

  • Exercise regularly. When you exercise consistently, you not only become healthier, but also have more energy. Both will contribute to your self-confidence.

  • Sit in the front row. Many people try to blend in, unseen, at the back of the room. Confident people sit up front, where they can take part in discussions without fear.

  • Take a chance and try something new. Broaden your horizons, take up a new hobby. Stretch your mind and meet new people who share your interests. This will quickly improve your overall self-confidence.

Life’s Lessons

The more self-confidence you build, the more likely you’ll be to succeed. Those who are insecure, find life to be a struggle, but with self-confidence, you'll find it a joy.
